Lieutenant Illarion - Wizard of Oz by ColonelLiamRoss Lieutenant Illarion - Wizard of Oz by ColonelLiamRoss
I've been playing around with design/backstory concepts for the Witch's Guard from the Wizard of Oz (1939) since last February. I absolutely love their design in the film - there's just something about tall, malevolent green chaps - and I wanted to take that a bit further. There's a bigger costume in the works (to be debuted at Emerald City Comic Con 2014 - see what I did there?) but I've put together something I can wear in the interim.

I've got them pinned down as a Slavic culture of sorts, in the language and dress, so I wanted elements of that to come through here. There's also a bit of steampunk in the boots, the belt, and the gauntlets - hey, it's Oz. The big-ass braid is a symbol of rank; getting it cut off is the ultimate dishonour.

The makeup is mostly water-based - Kryolan Aquacolour is a total dream to work with. I did the scar over my right eye with rigid collodion, kept my normal contact in, and popped a brown one into my left eye. Really like how the two different colours show up here.

Many, many thanks to Seyeco Images www.facebook.com/pages/SeyeCO-… for the photoshoot!

PS I think Fiyero in Wicked should have looked something like this...

I thought I was into historical costumes and not much else, but I think I start to come round to other stuff as well. At least if you've made them! This is awesome.

And the boots. <3

Thanks! The hair is actually a place-holder for now. I've always imagined these guys with sleeker, 1940s hair but it does the trick. :D
