Agh! Look at the time! I should really be in bed. Decided to redo my desktop tonight since Ghirlandaio's Confirmation of the Rule has been up there since October. But we're still keeping within the Lorenzo theme. This is the bust of Lorenzo de' Medici done by Andrea Verrocchio around 1480 - it was restored in 2006 by the National Gallery of Art in Washington so it no longer looks so grubby (for information on that, take a peek at: [link] Cool stuff, I'm telling you!)
I love it though. Wonder what happened to his nose. He definitely inherited it from his mother (if you don't believe me, have a look here: [link] and [link] ) But it normally shouldn't get that crooked unless it's been broken at least once. And I'd say that's more than once. One of the things I read about him over the holidays wrote that he "had the face of a prizefighter and the soul of a poet." SO MUCH LOVE SRSLY |
